Francis Bacon and His Rosicrucian Manifesto :
New Atlantis (Land of the Rosicrucians)
In 1626 Dr Rawley issued Sylva Sylvarum: Or A Natural History in Ten Centuries (sylva means wood or forest & sylva sylvarum a collection of materials for building the new science) to which is appended Bacon’s utopia New Atlantis, a philosophical and scientific blueprint for the Universal Reformation of the Whole World. The title page is framed within two Freemasonic Pillars. It is divided into ten centuries and consists of one thousand paragraphs relating to natural causes and phenomena in a compendious natural history drawn from various sources. Among other things Bacon discusses the prolonging of life a dream long cherished by himself and his Rosicrucian Brotherhood.
