Book by A. Phoenix
Francis Bacon, his Literary Mask Sir Thomas North, and the Secret Translation of Plutarch’s Lives (1579), a Major Source for his Shakespeare Plays
Thomas North was a literary mask for Francis Bacon for the great masterpiece of English prose Plutarch’s Lives.
Throughout Bacon’s acknowledged works he refers frequently to Plutarch and Plutarch is a critically important source for many of the Shakespeare plays. It is little known that the North and Bacon families had close and longstanding links and the relationship between Francis Bacon and Thomas North is obscured because of the Shakespeare connection. The close proximity between Plutarch’s Lives and the Shakespeare works is far greater than ever before known in that they both share a common translator and author; namely, Francis Bacon.
