The Late Great Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett wrote a song, "Love in the Library." Hear him mention two famous Elizabethans in  this short audio excerpt.
He is also on record for saying that Mark Twain was his favorite writer.

God bless Jimmy Buffett and all the peace, joy and love he shared with the world.

I was the pirate and she was the queen
Sir Francis and Elizabeth the best there's ever been
Then she strolled past my table and stopped at the stairs
Then sent me a smile as she reached for Flaubert

Lawrence, I think Jimmy Buffet was a fan of SirBacon.org!

Yes, I am well aware of Sir Francis Drake. And Jimmy who was his own kind of pirate would know Sir Francis Drake, obviously. And it would have been a tribute to Drake if he had named his last name. But everybody "just knows" Jimmy Buffet meant Sir Francis Drake, especially if you live in California, right?

"Sir Francis and Elizabeth the best there's ever been"

The "Mother and Son" or the "Queen and Pirate"?

Of course Mark Twain was a pirate's favorite writer, we just learned that Mark Twain was a pirate stealing works of others. LOL

Did Jimmy Buffet leave off the last name "Drake" on purpose yet overtly say, "Sir Francis" as a wink at a few friends?

I read this today, "Sir Francis Drake continued to 'singe the King of Spain’s beard' (as Francis Bacon put it), seemingly with impunity. "

https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Francis_Drake_(Civ6)

I can't find this as Bacon's quote. I wondered if it was about Drake specifically.

Hi Rob,

I found it. This is in "Considerations touching a War with Spain" and yes, this is about Drake specifically. 🙂

Thank you Yann! And how about this that Bacon says, "The enterprise of 88, deserveth to be stood upon a little more fully, being a miracle of time."
