Here is the medal of my dreams !

This is a personal artwork based on the medals of Skakespeare and Bacon from the "British Worthies" Series by Jean Dassier (c. 1733).

Nice.

I don't see any eBay right now... 🤪

There is a shortage of cool Bacon collectables. I poke around every once in a while hoping to find something. I have bought a couple very old books, an Essays from 1625 while Bacon was alive is one.

To own the First Edition of The Essayes published in 1625 is another sweet dream out of my range ! 😄

The oldest book I have bought is Alciati's "Emblemata" , the third French edition published in 1584, with its share of surprises.

I think the 1625 Essays are third edition. The first came out in 1597, the second in 1612.

The 3rd edition is the first one to begin with "Of Truth".

By the way, OF TRUTH = 103 Simple cipher as if to say, "I am Shakespeare" as a Truth. 😉

The book I have has a lot of Elizabethan handwriting in it, especially in the first several pages. It is hard for me to read and I can only make out some of it. Very little in fact. Page 287 has some which appears to be a poem. I can read a little of it, "saith it is good to walke", but have not figured all of it out. Maybe someone who can read Elizabethan handwriting can help?

So 1584 Alciati's "Emblemata"? Wow! I bet some surprises. I have a facsimile copy of the 1635 George Wither's emblems. A lot of surprises in it as well.

🙂
