The Death Mask of Shakespeare

Recommended Posts

I have stumbled across a few books today. One of them is this:

The death mask of Shakespeare : Norris, Joseph Parker, 1847-1916

https://archive.org/details/deathmaskofshake00norr

But the one I'm really looking for an online copy of is The Secret Grave of Francis Bacon at Lichfield by Walter Conrad Arensberg, also known as:

The burial of Francis Bacon and his mother in the Lichfield Chapter House : an open communication to the Dean and Chapter of Lichfield concerning the Rosicrucians

by Walter Conrad Arensberg

HAs anyone read this or has anyone got an account where they can download it? https://lib-cat.trin.cam.ac.uk/Record/98d13017-9f39-411c-a3d8-8913f635cb23

many thanks

Hi Kate,

We have a copy of The Burial of Francis Bacon and his Mother in the Lichfield Chapeter House (46 pages + 19 plates) which we purchased from Kessinger Publishing Company. This work appears to be available from https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/Burial-of-Francis-Bacon-and-His-Mother-in-the-Lichfield-Chapter-House-by-Walter-Conrad-Arensberg-author/9781564591135

Thank you. Really looking for an online digitised free version. Failing that, what does it say? Is there anything revealing/noteworthy in it? What is this talk of Lichfield? Thanks again

I've been coming across books in a way that feels a little like I'm being led. This one seems like it may hold some, hitherto, unexplored gems.

By the way, I was led to this from here. Looking through things from Stratfordians can be interesting!

Heere Shakespeare lyes whome none but Death could Shake
and heere shall ly till judgement all awake;
when the last trumpet doth unclose his eyes
the wittiest poet in the world shall rise.

"the last trumpet doth unclose his eyes"? What does that mean??

Ah, I remember this from childhood, the last trumpet. 😉

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/1-Corinthians_15_1611/

51 Behold, I shew you a mysterie: we shall not all sleepe, but wee shall all be changed,

52 In a moment, in the twinckling of an eye, at the last trumpe, (for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.)

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortall must put on immortalitie.

54 So when this corruptible shall haue put on incorruption, & this mortall shall haue put on immortality, then shall be brought to passe the saying that is written, Death is swallowed vp in victorie.
