Hi Eric, great question. . . It is our belief that Anthony was ‘spared’ on the direct intervention of his beloved brother Francis. Elizabeth demanded Francis appear as junior council against Essex which as an officer of the crown he couldn’t realistically refuse. We believe Francis agreed to  appear if Anthony could be left out of the matter (by now Anthony was seriously ill and would only outlive Essex by a few months). Francis was also given an assurance that Elizabeth would spare Essex’s life but through a tragic chain of events this didn’t happen.

Hi Eric,

The answer relating to your question is covered in our paper 'The Bacon-Shakespeare Manuscript (Hitherto known as the Northumberland Manuscript) which originally Contained Copies of his Shakespeare Plays Richard II and Richard III', pp. 181-199. There is a second part to 'Hayward's' prose life of Henry IV held at the Folger Shakespeare Library (p. 193):

The manuscript copy of The Second Part of the Life and raigne of King Henry IIII has an elegance and simplicity all of its own. It comprises, states Dr Manning, ‘157 quarto-sized pages, 33 lines to each page’. The number 33 comprising each and every page is simple cipher for Bacon all written on exactly 157 quarto sized pages simple cipher for Fra. Rosicrosse: thus we have Bacon, Brother of the Rosy Cross.

Anthony, his public "known" brother who Bacon Loved so much, and Essex, his "blood" brother who he Loved as well.

Francis saved Anthony while also trying to save Essex, and his own highly vulnerable behind. Essex was guilty as can be, Anthony was no more guilty than Francis by proxy? If Anthony and Francis were not who they were, they all would have been executed. Essex was the FOOL. A big self-destructive FOOL. Thank GOD it was not Francis who was more entitled did not scheme to overthrow their Mother!!

Thankfully Francis and Anthony survived even though Anthony died anyway.

Imagine the pain and agony our Bacon endured! Submitting to his and Essex's Mother, the Queen of England! Both brothers dead in a short time with Bacon having to somehow feel some guilt, even though misled.

I get depressed and feel sorry for myself, but when I think about Bacon I realize am such a wimp! LOL

The story is told as A. Phoenix presents it with their work, but the Sonnets also have the entire story for we who wish to pursue.

Francis Bacon was very strong, and I believe an impeccable role model for his time and ours.

Hi A Phoenix.

"no measures taken by the authorities to discover his whereabouts..."

The British Library tells us that, In May 1597, Shakespeare bought the second largest house in the town, New Place, and was listed as a resident there in 1598.  https://www.bl.uk/treasures/shakespeare/stratford.html

Hi Eric,

Which suggests if the authorities really wanted to find Shakspere they could quite easily have done so. Some of the leading Elizabethan noblemen and other courtiers lived in the vacinity of Warwickshire and the owner of the second largest house in Stratford would have stuck out like a sore thumb and would have been the talk of the town.

There were many Elizabethans who were aware Bacon was the concealed poet and dramatist Shakespeare including members of his English Secret Services and others close to Queen Elizabeth some of whom (if she did not already know it) could have easily whispered the secret in her ear. But there is one thing knowing and another thing proving it.

The very fact that Shakspere was not hunted down by the authorities, arrested and interrogated and like some involved in the Essex conspiracy tried and executed, is itself a strong indication that it was known to Queen Elizabeth and the authorities that he was a front or literary mask for someone else, whom many knew or strongly suspected (including Elizabeth), was the Great One.

I would suspect that Elizabeth was quite relieved that Francis, one son, did not participate in Essex's crazy attempt to rebel, another son. If the two of them conspired history would tell a very different story. Bacon stayed loyal to the Queen, and his Mother.

 What a nightmare for everybody!!

Well, except for silly Willy in the 2nd largest house in Stratford who may have been very happy nobody knew or cared who he was. LOL

I know we have all read this before, "I remember an answer of mine in a MATTER which had some affinity (connection) with my Lord's (Essex) cause (rebellion and imprisonment), which THOUGH IT GREW FROM ME, went about in OTHER'S NAMES." What else could Francis be talking about other than "Richard II"? He actually tells us implicitly that he wrote the play, quite deliberately it would seem. Also interesting is "the Queen would not be persuaded, that it was his (Hayward's) writing..." She clearly smelled a rat, or had intelligence to the effect that the play was not written by Hayward.

Isn't it peculiar that these title page acrostics never spell "Marlow" or "De Vere" ? 🙂
