It is indeed a threat to those afraid of losing power, as Bacon was well aware. Science is becoming almost like it was in the 17th century in popular opinion. Bacon's not very best friend was all over the news when the Supreme Court ruled against Roe vs Wade using Coke's witch trial days ruling in some court while he was alive. The KJV and all its infinite religious interpretations may become the rule of Law while missing Bacon's and his team's esoteric hidden secrets about Science and Nature for we who see.

Global warning and medical discoveries are not as popular as we'd think. Strange times.

For the anecdote, when I watched your video, one of the quotes caught my attention, the one from T.Culpeper (Essayes or Moral Discourses on several Subjects), being intrigued by the title of the Chapter ... "Of Wit and Language" of which the capital letters form the word "OWL" , one of the symbol of Minerva, the Spear-shaker, Francis Bacon's muse.

I did not know this Book. Interestingly enough, Shakespeare is mentionned right after Lord Bacon (page 109) "the incomparable Lord Bacon have been out done in their sevreal kinds, or Shakespear ..."

Page 161 is also very interesting. "Knowledge is Power" 😉

Winding up my day. Both the page 161 in the online presentation and the actual page 161 of the Essays both speak to what you mentioned. It is very in sync with what is happening right now in the New Atlantis. "Knowledge is Power."

In another post I mentioned a concept one of our US Senators made about Higher Education as what is wrong in America. Yet 400 years ago, Bacon was making the same even more powerful statement. I see a total flip-flip of reasoning , opposite from 1622.

It is the same struggle today as it was 400 years ago, and Bacon was the one to tackle it. He did not invent science, but he was the Genius of our age and he ran with it. 400 years ago Bacon (with a handful of friends/brothers) was telling the powers that be, all of the rich and famous, that High Education at the time was what was wrong. Granted, of course they were OK with learning to read, write, do some arithmetic, etc. but the core message to those who held power was that the everything they ever knew was wrong as far as our direction.

Today science is under attack. Higher Education as a threat today is not about holding onto the ancient establishment and rigid doctrine, it is wild free science and analyzed based data where we can use our Knowledge to be the best we can be. Nature and Numbers! One and the same in my mind!

Bacon was the beginning, and we are at the end of a 400 year old cycle. Part One of whatever. LOL

Read page 161 of the OWL's presentation from 1671 (the page after page 144 of the Essays). I feel Bacon.
