Eric Roberts Posted May 27 Posted May 27 https://www.trin.cam.ac.uk/news/trinity-celebrates-francis-bacon-englands-greatest-renaissance-thinker/ Not sure if this link has already been posted. As well as being a fine tribute, it contains this little-known portrait: 2 1 1
Christie Waldman Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Did you see they quote Dr. Richard Sergeantson: "Bacon was a polymath who claimed “all knowledge to be my province.” He wasn’t just an expert in science and in his professional sphere of law, he also wrote on history, rhetoric, architecture, gardens, on religion. He also wrote plays and poetry. This was a man who could do anything and was acknowledged by his contemporaries as a master of all these arts." https://www.trin.cam.ac.uk/news/trinity-celebrates-francis-bacon-englands-greatest-renaissance-thinker/ 2 1
Lawrence Gerald Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Once again another institution that gets the Bribery charges and surrounding circumstances wrong about Bacon's impeachment, demonstrating slander, because they lazily have a shallow interest based on an incomplete context. 1 3
Christie Waldman Posted May 29 Posted May 29 You are right, Lawrence! We shouldn't still have to be correcting people on that. But to have a scholar of the caliber of Richard Sergeantson openly saying Bacon wrote plays and poetry is huge! He didn't say masques, he said plays. Here's his list of "key publications"; I counted 7 articles on Bacon: https://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/people/dr-richard-serjeantson. 4
